Hello everybody! Today, I’ve decided to talk about some of the films that came out this year that I really want to see, but didn’t manage to see in the cinema for a few different reasons, and that I’m hoping to get hold of DVDs of soon/when they come out. Onto the post!
I, Tonya– this wasn’t on my radar until Allison Janney won her Oscar, but I absolutely LOVE Allison in the West Wing and really want to watch her killing it in a totally different role to CJ. I also like bipoic films in general (some recent favourites are Race and Hidden Figures), so I’m looking forward to learning about Tonya Harding when I watch it.
Lady Bird– Saoirse Ronan stars in Brooklyn, aka one of my favourite films of all time, so I’m so looking forward to watching this. It sounds so funny, and I’ve heard that the mother/daughter relationship is brilliant. I’m slightly worried about it not getting great consumer reviews, but I’m really hoping I enjoy it when I manage to see it.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society– the main reason I want to see this film is because I had no idea Guernsey was occupied during the second world war until I learnt more about this, and I want to learn more about that. It sounds like such a lovely film too, despite it exploring this, and I loved Lily James in the live action Cinderella and Mamma Mia 2so want to see it for that reason too.
Christopher Robin– of all the films on this list, this is the one I’m saddest I couldn’t see. If you’ve ever read this blog before, you’ll probably know I’m a big fan of Disney, and also that I adore the Winnie the Pooh characters. I burst into tears when I saw the trailer before Incredibles 2, and I know I’ll probably weep solidly through the whole thing (Winnie the Pooh has that effect on me). It’s about Christopher Robin when he’s grown up and is a rather unhappy adult and what happens when the gang venture into the real world to help him.
Crazy Rich Asians– while this is just out, I don’t think I’m going to make it to see it, and it sounds like a film I’ll love. I’m a huge rom-com fan, and this one sounds fantastic. From what I’ve heard, it’s about a woman discovering her boyfriend is from an incredibly rich family, and them going to a wedding where the family are and their interactions with his girlfriend that they disapprove of because she’s not rich.
What films released this year have you not seen that you wanted to? Do we have any in common? Let me know in the comments!
