The Twenty Questions Book Tag

Hello everybody!

Today, I’m going to be doing the Twenty Questions book tag, which I found on Paper Fury. Onto the post!

1. HOW MANY BOOKS ARE TOO MANY FOR A SERIES?

If I love a series, there can never be too many! There are some characters I would love to keep reading about if there were fifty books about them or even more.

2. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CLIFFHANGERS?

We have a love/hate relationship. They always make me SO excited for the next book in a series, but I am so impatient that waiting for them is hard

3. HARDCOVER OR PAPERBACK?

Definitely prefer paperbacks!

4. . FAVOURITE BOOK?

I could never narrow it down to just one 😱

5. LEAST FAVOURITE BOOK?

I don’t think I have an absolute least favourite, so you can have my most recent one star instead, which was Yerma. I read Bodas de Sangre by the same writer in November and I was NOT a fan, but alas I am reading them because they’re our folio texts in Spanish and I need to write essays on them so I picked up Yerma in January and hated it even more. Bodas at least had a plot if no other particularly redeeming features, but Yerma had no plot, I hated almsot every character and it’s take on infertility is problematic. Basically, don’t read these plays unless you’re up for misery, pretty poor writing and convincing yourself that men were trash in the 1800s.

6. LOVE TRIANGLES, YES OR NO?

Yes! I love a good love triangle. Emphasis on the good… I don’t always like them.

7. THE MOST RECENT BOOK YOU COULDN’T FINISH?

Pretty sure it was Running on Empty in July. I don’t recall any others since then, anyway.

8. A BOOK YOU’RE CURRENTLY READING?

This won’t be true by the time this goes up (I hope, anyway) but I’m currently 75 pages from the end of Pog!

9. LAST BOOK YOU RECOMMENDED TO SOMEONE?

At time of writing, I think it was No Ballet Shoes in Syria to Rachael.

10. OLDEST BOOK YOU’VE READ BY PUBLICATION DATE?

I have no idea which is the oldest but I’d imagine it’s one of the Shakespeares I’ve read. I have a feeling it’s Taming of the Shrew.

11. NEWEST BOOK YOU’VE READ BY PUBLICATION DATE

We Won an Island by Charlotte Lo. It’s a brilliant debut and it is such a lovely, cheerful book.

12. FAVOURITE AUTHOR?

Robin Stevens, Emma Carroll and Jess Butterworth are my top three I think.

13. BUYING BOOKS OR BORROWING BOOKS?

I do both and love both.

14. A BOOK YOU DISLIKE THAT EVERYONE SEEMS TO LOVE?

The Loneliest Girl in the Universe

15. BOOKMARKS OR DOG EARS?

Bookmarks all the way! I have an excellent, mostly-animal based collection of them and they’re delightful.

16. A BOOK YOU CAN ALWAYS RE-READ?

Any time I reread Geek Girl I love it just as much as I have every time before. Which is a lot.

17 . CAN YOU READ WHILE LISTENING TO MUSIC

No. When I read I like to focus on the book and when I listen to music I like to focus on the music in question. It’s far too distracting trying to do both at the one time, and it wouldn’t be fair to either the book or the song(s) in my case.

18. ONE POV OR MULTIPLE

I don’t really have a preference to be honest! I guess one because with a few there’s sometimes that whole annoying thing where the voices are too similar and it gets confusing.

19. DO YOU READ A BOOK IN ONE SITTING OR OVER MULTIPLE DAYS?

Generally over multiple days. I’m not saying I never read things in a day because I sometimes do (and it’s always fun when I have time and justify it to myself that I don’t need to be doing something else…) but in that case it’s still usually a few separate sittings.

20. WHO DO YOU TAG?

Anyone that fancies giving it a go!

What would your answers to some of these be? Do we share any/many opinions? I’d love to hear in the comments!

Amy x

  1. We have quite similar opinions- although whilst I will NEVER fold the corner of a book I have quite an unorthodox approach to bookmarks, anything that will do will do; receipt, envelope, loo roll, currently my page is being held by one of Tinyfae’s sparkly barrette clips as I had nothing else reasonably flat to hand!!!

    1. If I had nothing else to hand I would probably do similar- as a young child I used to use other books as bookmarks (yes, all my older books are absolutely wrecked in terms of the spine…) so I’ve definitely got a bit more orthodox in recent years with bookmarks 😂😂

  2. quite interesting tag! although i do have a question. in q.1 you said you could read 50 of them, n its a very interesting take. cz for me i dread when i like abook n author would annoce that its gonna b say 4+ part series coz 8/10 times chances are the author wanted to bank on the success of book 1 but in reality couldnt live upto it. in the sense that the characters n all r still amaze but he/she just didnt know how to stretch it to x no.of books and also give it an epic end n so what atrted as amazing end up being flat by the end. What do you think?
Ps. totally agree with bookmarks thing! Dog ear only n only when there is no other option but most of the time there is alwasy something you can use as bookmark or reminder!
    Great tag!

    1. I definitely would rather some series end before they get ruined because the writer is only in it for the money, but if they genuinely love the characters and wanted to write them I’d read as many as I could get! Glad you enjoyed the tag 😊

    1. That’s the edited version- the original was even longer! Just started rambling and raging and couldn’t stop 😂. My folio is more or less 1500 words of the same idea, though slightly less vehement…
Yes, I finished it on Wednesday and really liked it! Very unusual but a lovely book 😊

    1. It’s really hard to say without having read Tin! If it was to do with pacing I’d say maybe give it a miss as Pog is really quite slow paced (even though it worked really well imo). I thought the characters in this one were great- Pog is particularly endearing- and the magic system/world was really interesting, as was the way it tied to grief x

      1. Hmm, I’m not sure – it was a bit of everything really. I didn’t hate it but I just didn’t love it. Maybe I’ll keep Pog on my radar but I won’t rush to it!
