Hello everybody! Today, I’m going to be doing the Out Of My Comfort Tag, which I found on Book Dragons. Onto the post!

Rules
You have to pick ONE GENRE that you frequently read about… and then, you can’t use ANY books from that genre while answering the questions!
I read MG fantasy the most, so will exclude everything from that genre.
A Book That Is An Exception When It Comes To Genres Or Elements You Don’t Typically Like
The Middler. I tend not to enjoy dystopian books but I really liked that one. I guess Boy in the Tower (which is one of my favourite books) has some dystopian elements too.
A Book You Enjoyed From A Genre You Previously Held Some Stigma Against
I don’t think I hold stigma against any genre really? I don’t read a lot of sci fi or dystopia but that’s just down to personal preference, I don’t look down on them or anyone who reads them in the slightest.
A Book You Didn’t Know Was Out Of Your Comfort Zone Until You Started Reading It
I’m really not sure! I tend to research books before I acquire them and pick them up, so usually by the time I get to them I’m pretty sure of what they are. I hadn’t realised Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue was fantasy as well as historical and romance before picking it up, but I’m not averse to fantasy so it wasn’t THAT out of my comfort zone.
Pick A Friend Who Motivates You To Pick Up Books You Might Not Normally Be Interested In – Is There A Book They Convinced You To Give A Try?
Charlotte and I have pretty different tastes most of the time, and I’m fairly sure I wouldn’t have picked up State of Sorrow (and by proxy Song of Sorrow!) without her. And I love that duology, so I’m very glad I read them.
A Book That Is Out of Your Comfort Zone, But You Would Like to Read
I don’t read a lot of adult books, but I’ve been trying to change that this year; I’ve already dipped my toe into some non fiction and I’m planning to give some fiction a try. I’m particularly excited about the Flatshare by Beth O’ Leary, so I’ll say that as my answer.
A Book/Genre So Outside Of Your Comfort Zone That You’ll Probably Never Give It A Chance
Ooh I don’t know. Anything really heavy-duty sci fi or dystopia I guess? I’m also a bit intimidated by high fantasy and literary fiction.
What are your thoughts on the books I’ve mentioned? Which books have you went out of your comfort zone, and are there any others you especially want to read? I’d love to hear in the comments!
Amy x
You and me both on many of these answers! I’m a little less against Dystopia but definitely can’t do full on Sci-fi – I recently read a sci fi book that’s quite popular at the moment and I just cringed all the way through and couldn’t get why people were raving about it. But each to their own, I know the things I like raise an eyebrow in others!!

Ooh I’d be very intrigued to hear what it was! There was a sci fi a couple of years ago that basically everyone but me LOVED and I felt so awkward about disliking it 😂

*Whispers* Emily Eternal. It was the way the female protagonist was written was very um…. male writer fantasy fulfilment, if you get me.

I get you exactly! I hate those sorts of books. Mine was the Loneliest Girl in the Universe, if you were curious!

Oh yes, that was popular, but space is not my cup of tea to be honest. Star Wars and maybe Guardians of the Galaxy are my exceptions now that Thor is on board!!

What was it?! I’m not into sci fi either.
I do like a bit of dystopia though.
I need to read more adult books too – I have so many that I really want to read sat there but I keep choosing mg instead!

Which answer was your question in response to? I’m really looking forward to trying some more adult books- I’ll always love MG and YA but it’ll be fun to read some new things. My French/Spanish teachers last year bought me a book as one of my leaving presents as well (a Jojo Moyes one, it looks fab) so it’s one I plan to read hopefully soon as well as some I already have on my TBR like the Flatshare and some Carrie Hope Fletcher ones that sound great x

I was asking which sci fi book you weren’t keen on that you’d mentioned in another comment but I see know, I know you’ve mentioned that one before.
Ah, not sure Jojo or CHF are my cup of tea, but both very popular – I hope you enjoy them!

I loved reading your answers to this tag Amy! The Flatshare isn’t perhaps a book I would normally go to either, but I’d heard so many people talking about it recently that I’m tempted to pick it up 🙂

Ooh I really hope you enjoy it if you read it! I’m so excited about getting to it 😊

I love it when someone’s so passionate about a book that you pick it up yourself, even if it’s not to your usual tastes. Especially so when I love it haha.

It’s so lovely to love something when you don’t expect to, especially if it’s been recommended! X
