The Greek Myths Tag

Hello everybody! Today I’m going to be doing the Greek Myths book Tag, which I found on Charlotte’s blog, and have been meaning to do ever since. Onto the post!

Zeus, The King Sky God – Favourite book

I don’t have just one! Although a lot of my favourite books are series, so a standalone I’m obsessed with is Boy in the Tower by Polly Ho-Yen.

Poseidon- God of the Ocean – A book that drowned you in feels.

I think I’m going to go for a Kind of Spark here! I went through just about every emotion possible when I was reading this amazing story, which is about an autistic girl called Addie who lives in Scotland. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been more livid with a character than Miss Murphy EVER, just as a little sidenote.

Hades- God of the Underworld – Favourite dark book.

I don’t really read that many dark books. Parts of Good Girl, Bad Blood were quite dark I guess? I bloody loved that- it’s such an amazing sequel.

Hera- The Queen Goddess of Family and Marriage – Cutest couple

My go to answer for this is always Harriet and Nick from Geek Girl, but I say them all the time so a very cute couple from a newer book is Robin and his love interest Seth from Boy Queen!

Athena- Goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategy – Favourite intelligent heroine.

Oh this is FAR too hard because three of my favourite ever female characters are so, so clever and there are so many others I love too. If you forced me to pick, I think I’d go for Daisy Wells from Murder Most Unladylike. I’m so unpredictable, I know…

Gaia- The Great Mother – Favourite world building book.

I don’t think I could pick my favourite world building of all time, that’s so hard! Nevermoor is right up there, and I think the world in the Wild Magic trilogy is incredibly well-built.

Aphrodite- Goddess of Love and Beauty – Most gorgeous cover.

The cover of In Darkling Wood is ALWAYS my answer for this, I think it’s stunning. Julian de Narvaez illustrated it.

Aries- God of War and Battle – Most violent book you’ve read

I don’t really read a lot of things with violence in them, really. The Shadowhunters books have loads of battles in them so maybe them?

Hephaestus – God of Blacksmiths and Flame – Hottest book you’ve ever read

I genuinely have no idea? Which is very boring of me, but also true.

Artemis- The Virgin Goddess of the Hunt – A heroine who doesn’t need a man to save her.

Sorrow Ventaxis from Melinda Salisbury’s Sorrow duology springs immediately to mind here. She has some very lovely men in her life, but she saves herself, time and time again.

Apollo- God of Music, Light, and Healing – A book that is the exception to a genre you don’t like.

I never read horror, but I love Jennifer Killick so I obviously had to read Crater Lake, which is her brilliant 2020 release. And I adored it!

Hermes, God of Messages, Travelers, and Thieves- A book that stole your heart.

Going to go for a recent read here, with the Faraway Truth. It’s easily one of my favourite books I’ve read all year- it’s about a Black girl called Zoe Washington who starts writing to her incarcerated father, and her trying to prove his innocence, amidst having issues within her friend group and trying to achieve her dream of becoming a pastry chef. It’s brilliantly written and very important, and I loved Zoe and her story so much. There’s also a thing in it to do with macaroni cheese that made me want it so much I ate it that night even though I’d not ate it for ages!

Hestia- Goddess of Hearth and Home – A book you go back to for comfort.

I say it for every question like this, but it’s Geek Girl. I can quote an alarming amount of the first few pages, I’ve read them so many times.

Demeter- Goddess of Agriculture and Fertility – Favourite book setting.

I don’t know, I think maybe Deepdean School from the MMU books. I love it so much, I absolutely lost my mind when I was reading Top Marks for Murder because it had been like 3 years and a bit since a book was last set there.

Dionysus, God of Wine and Feasting- A book you are most anticipating in the next year.

It’s out in August, but Death Sets Sail!! I’m gutted it’s the last one of the Murder Most Unladylike series but so excited as well. If you want a 2021 release, the Week at World’s End by Emma Carroll. I think it’s out in March but it’s been changed a few times, so I’m not 100% sure anymore.

Hecate, Goddess of Crossroads and MagicFavourite magical read.

This one is SO hard. One of my favourites this year so far has been Willow Moss and the Forgotten Tale, I adore the Starfell series and it was a very comforting book to be reading as the country went into lockdown back in March!

Nemesis, God of Revenge- Favourite revenge story.

Ooh this is quite hard for me, I feel like this is most common in high fantasy and I’m not the biggest high fantasy reader. Would the Manifesto on How to be Interesting count? I don’t remember it that well now but I feel like it had a revenge plot in it. It’s one of Holly Bourne’s earliest books, and it’s a great read even though she’s definitely got better over time.

Who is your favourite character from Greek mythology? Do you have any thoughts on the books I’ve mentioned? I’d really love to hear in the comments!
