The Baby It’s Cold Outside Book Tag

Hello everybody! Today, I’m going to be doing the Baby, It’s Cold Outside, which I found on Aoife’s blog. Onto the post!

Snow Day – What’s your “comfort” book?

I have quite a few. Geek Girl and the Murder Most Unladylike books always make me feel a little better. And Laura Wood’s books are always the most perfect escape from real life.

Snow Angels – What’s a book that you love so much you would want to be buried with it (a little morbid, but…)?

God that’s a hard one. Maybe the Skylarks’ War? I mean, it’s gorgeous and funny and warm, but also very sad, and I don’t want to pick something super chirpy.

Warm Socks – What’s a book that makes you feel warm inside?(The fluffiest, cutest romance you’ve ever read?)

Oooh this is a toughie. From this year, I’d go for the Secret Bridesmaid I think. It’s just such a lovely book.

Hot Cocoa – What winter-themed novels have you previously read?

Oh my god, so many! Some of my favourites from last year are the Midnight Guardians (magical historical middle grade about a boy and his imaginary friends trying to save London from the Midwinter King), a Snowfall of Silver (gorgeous historical romance about a girl who runs away from home to join a travelling theatre company, and it’s a companion to the very summery read A Sky Painted Gold) and Someday at Christmas, which is an adult romcom that’s very, very funny and made me swoon and cry and just feel all the feels.

Sledding – What’s a book with the best plot twists? Who’s an author that always keeps you on your toes?

For the first one, I’m going to go for Amari and The Night Brothers, and the second I’ll say Janice Hallett, who wrote the Appeal. I’ve only read one of her books so far but it had me absolutely hooked. And the twist at the end of Amari got me GOOD.

Ugly Sweaters – What’s a book with the ugliest cover?

Like Aoife, I don’t love this question, because I don’t want to be mean about any cover artists’ work. I’m not usually a huge fan of ones that are just stock images/photos though. Especially when it’s real people on the covers, rather than illustrated ones.

Movie Marathon – What’s the last book you binge read?

I know it’s not everyone’s definition of binge reading, but I think I did pretty well to read the whole Podkin One Ear and Uki trilogies in one year. This time last year I hadn’t even read one!! I also got through my very recent (at time of writing) read Perfect on Paper pretty quickly because I read it on a day where I was off ill from uni and just trying to rest. A lot of the time I’d like to read books in one sitting but life just doesn’t allow it very often, sadly 😦

Letter to Santa – What’s a book that’s on your wishlist this year?

I’m going to mention one that I’m very excited for in 2022 here, Elle McNicoll’s Like a Charm. It’s a fantasy with neurodiverse characters set in Edinburgh.

Thank you so much for reading! Which books would you have chosen for these prompts? Have you read any of the ones I’ve mentioned? I’d love to hear in the comments!

    1. Honestly I feel like my dislike of people on covers may come from my general dislike of most people 🙈🙈. Glad it’s not just me 😂 x (either that or I just like illustrations!)
