The Buddy Reading Book Tag

Hello everybody! Today, I have a tag for you for the first time since Easter, which feels like ages ago. I found this on Aoife’s YouTube channel, and I thought it would be really fun. So, onto the post!

1. Accountability: do you like buddy reading?

I do! I didn’t used to do it all that often, but someone suggested reading something together on Instagram last year and then after that I just started doing them pretty regularly and it’s been fun.

2. Sharing: what is your ideal size of buddy read?

I’d say 2 or 3 people, although I’ve not done any bigger than that so I’m not really very sure. I think 4+ would probably be a bit overwhelming though.

3. Duration: are longer or shorter books better for buddy reads?

I’d say shorter, but to be fair I’ve not done anything over 400 pages so I’m possibly being unfair to chunky books!

4. Community: share a buddy read that had a meeting of minds?

I think I have to say All Our Hidden Gifts with Sophie (@missbslibrary) for this because we both loved it in a huge 5 star favourite kind of way and it was really special.

5. Perspectives: share a buddy read where you had a difference in perspectives?

If I remember correctly, when I read Northern Lights with Alyce, she quite enjoyed it and I very much did not. I know that’s like a cardinal sin, please don’t come for me okay!! (Mind you, after Philip Pullman’s recent behaviour, I’m pretty glad I didn’t!)

6. Challenges: share a public or private challenge that will take you out of your comfort zone?

I mean, it’s not official, but I’ve decided to try and read 31 books this month. Purely because I did that last May and I thought it was cool, so figure I may as well try again?? Who knows if I’ll do it, though.

7. Events: what is your favourite reading event and why?

The only thing I make a point of participating in every time it runs is LGBTQ Month, which is run by my amazing friend Ross.

8. Can’t Stop: the person who you’ve buddy read with the most?

It’s definitely Sophie!

9. Won’t Stop: someone you haven’t buddy read with, but would love to?

Okay, so I’m having a realistic answer and like a fantasy answer, cause why not?! There is a chance we could have done something ages ago and I’ve forgotten, cause we’ve been pals for 5 years and getting long in the tooth, but I don’t think I’ve ever read anything with Ross and I would love to do that! I also can’t think of a time me and Rach have read something together, so I’d very much like to do one with her at some point.

And then the one that will just not be happening is Leena Norms, and I would specifically want to read a Mhairi McFarlane book together!

Thank you so much for reading! Do you enjoy buddy reading? What are some of the books you’ve read in this way? I’d love to chat in the comments!

  1. Great tag! I’d love to do a buddy read with you…but you’d probably have to have another book on the go at the same time since you read so much quicker than me!!
    Good luck with May’s goal!
