Five Shows I’ve Binge Watched in 2019 (so far)

Hello everybody! Today, it’s time for another TV post, this time about some shows I’ve binge watched this year so far that I want to recommend and screech about for a bit. Onto the post!

Cable Girls- I was very reluctant to start this and it takes a while to get going, but halfway through the first series it became AMAZING and I fell in love. I watched it in the original Spanish because my teachers kept saying to watch foreign language TV to improve my listening skills, which obviously takes a bit more energy than a TV show in your mother tongue and I would still watch 3 or 4 episodes of it in a row once it got going because it’s SO addictive. It’s about the very complicated lives of telephone operators in Madrid in the 1920s, and I adore this show. It’s dramatic and intriguing and full of romance and passion and love and danger, and I just LOVE it okay?! My favourite girl is Alba, because she’s just the best and I want to be as cool as her, and I’m Team Carlos if you’re wondering. The villains are some of the nastiest I’ve ever seen too, and I’m a big fan of lots of other characters such as Francisco and Elisa. I check for news on season 4 literally every day. I need it and I need it NOW because that cliffhanger was horrible. Also, I know this is shallow but The clothes in this show give me such life. Especially Alba’s.

Gilmore Girls– I watched this partly because of Charlotte and partly because I love Milo Vemtimiglia, and I liked it very much. Certain parts of it are definitely outtdated in 2019, but other than that I was a pretty big fan. It’s about unconventional mother/daughter duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, and their lives and loves over 7 seasons. Emily is SUCH a complex and fascinating and fabulous character who I adored utterly, and Paris was another fave. Luke is very, very lovely and while I’m not quite as in love with him as I am Jack in This is Us, I love Jess SO much. Stars Hollow is such a cute setting too- I loved all the eccentric people who live there and the small town feel that’s not dissimilar to Bluebell from Hart of Dixie. A really lovely show perfect for escapism.

Private Practise– I’ve only seen one season of this so far, because I finished it in like 2 days and then got obsessed with Depserate Housewives while waiting on the next DVD arriving (which took an age) but I will 100% go back to it, probably soon. It’s the Addison-centric Grey’s Anatomy spin off I’ve been meaning to watch for YEARS, and I’m so pleased that I love what I’ve seen because I adored Addison in the original show. I’m already very fond of her new coworkers/friends (10/10 would die for Dell already), and I like the wellness centre setting so much more than I’d expected to- it’s not boring or humdrum at all, and it packs SUCH an emotional punch a lot of the time. Definitely excited to return to this.

Big Little Lies– I have been reluctant to watch this for so long, even though everyone kept saying I’d like it because it’s basically Pretty Little Liars with older characters (I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that, but I did love it!), and I finally did and now I am obsessed. It’s about the lives of some mothers whose children are in the same class, and it’s SO much more thrilling than a show with that description has any right to be, possibly because you know straight off the bat that someone has died in the future, and you’re watching the events that led up to it. The acting is absolutely phenomenal from literally everyone (Maddy is just such a queen, while we’re talking about the characters. And I love Jane!) And now Meryl Streep’s joined the cast in season 2 it’s even better. Buy into the hype, here. It’s well deserved.

Desperate Housewives– I’m currently almost done with series 3 of this, and I’m VERY into it. Like Gilmore Girls, it is definitely outdated in some ways (more so than GG, I think) but it’s so addictive and intriguing and I do love it for that. None of the housewives are particularly likable people (except Susan, who is weirdly the only one I don’t like!) but I still love them all anyway and I want things to end up good for them. My fave is probably Bree, for her organisation and quiet and exacting but deadly means of handling any threats or issues, but really I like everyone. My fave partner is Carlos I think, though I’d like to specify I mean Carlos later on, because he was a horror at the start. But really all the men are kind of trash. I despise Tom especially! Very excited for more mystery and suburban drama as I keep watching, especially as Dana Delany will be arriving imminently and I bloody love her in her brief guest role in Castle.

Which shows have you binged this year, and would you recommend them? Have you seen any of these? I’d really love to hear in the comments and chat about them!

My Top 5 TV Shows of 2018

Hello everybody! Today, I’m going to be talking about my favourite TV during 2018, because while I’ll be doing a more general favourites post soon, I wanted to talk in a bit more detail about why I enjoyed these, like I’ll be doing for all my favourite books of the year too, probably at the very end of the month or beginning of January. Onto the post!

The Vampire Diaries Tag

Hello everybody!

Today, I’m going to be doing the Vampire Diaries tag, which I saw on Zoe’s channel (though I think the questions here are slightly different as I googled blog posts doing it when I decided to do it myself!). Onto the post!

A Q&A : Books, Music and TV

Hello everybody!

A little (a long), while ago on Twitter, I asked for some questions for a Q&A post, so today I’m going to answer them all. I was so pleased with all the questions, and I already can’t wait to do another one of these (especially if anyone enjoyed it; please let me know what you think in the comments!)

Onto the post!

First and last crush on a fictional character?

The first was Aiden from Pony Club Secrets, last was probably Étienne from Anna and the French Kiss. The two biggest are Nick from Geek Girl and Sirius Black.

Favourite show/musical? And favourite character from it?

My favourite musical is Sunshine on Leith, which is based on the music of the Proclaimers, and I also loved Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat

If you were a Disney character, which one would you be and why?

This is SO hard. I asked my mum who she thought I’d be, and she said Belle as I’m almost always reading! I’d say Rapunzel, but I don’t think I’m optimistic enough in all honesty. In a dream world, I’d like to be Olaf.

How do you plan/write your reviews?

Badly 😂. I try and write notes on as many as possible throughout the month, then sit down at the end and write them all up (and usually put it off till the night before I want the post to go up).  If I forget to write notes, I wing it.

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I’d love to be a dog (probably either a cocker spaniel or a golden retriever, though really any breed as I adore them all).

Peter Pan or Tinkerbell?

Tinkerbell. Peter Pan is FAR too whiny for my taste.

What’s your favourite guilty pleasure snack?

I try not to be guilty about treats, but I do indulge in quite a bit of chocolate…

Do you think words have the power to change us and if so do you think this is a good thing?

Absolutely, and yes. Words shape who I am, and my knowledge.

What book have you had on your TBR forever, that you still haven’t read yet?

Loads! Based on the person who asked me this (hey Aimee, if you’re reading) I’ll say Abi Ephinstone’s books. I read the Dreamsnatcher and enjoyed it, but have still never got round to books 2 or 3.

If you could only read one author or genre for the rest of your life who/what would you choose?

I’d read mysteries, because you can find a mystery in most books and could therefore read almost everything!

What was your first favourite book?

A picture book called Second Best.
What are your pet bookish peeves/things you can’t stand?

I’m not keen on selfish or whiny main characters (or those I perceive to be those things, anyway), unless it’s clear it’s been done on purpose. For example, I really rooted for Olivia in Close Your Pretty Eyes by Sally Nicholls as she’s not conventionally likeable but we can see why. I’m 50/50 with animal deaths, and I detest any poor treatment of animals.

What do you really love to see in a book?

I personally quite like instalove if done well, but I also like slow-burn romances. I love characters who are so brave but don’t really know it, if that makes sense. I love seeing a foreign country, or fantasy worldbuilding. I love a good mystery, of course. And a really nice friendship!.

Three elements for a perfect story?

A middle grade mystery, with fab friendships and an exciting, excellent plot.

What’s your fave mythical creature?

I love a good dragon, and also unicorns.

If you could live in one bookish world, which one would you choose?

Stoneybrook in the Babysitters Club. I’ll be nice and safe, be able to look after lovely children and go on fun adventures to places like New York.

What got you started with blogging?

I had wanted to for ages, and decided in June that I might as well give it a shot.

Most underrated book?

Boy in the Tower by Polly Ho-Yen, which will most likely not come as a surprise. I’m planning a whole new feature this year about other books I love which are underrated and why I think everyone should read them. The first will be my favourite Enid Blyton series…

Most underrated Disney film?

I think I’ll go for Oliver and Company! I also bareky ever see love for Zootropolis, which I adore SO much.

Favourite t.v. show?

I love lots, but Suits is probably my all time favourite. There is literally nothing I dislike about it.

Best thing to binge watch on Netflix?

I have only ever binged the Good Wife on Netflix, which I adored. On DVD, I got through Suits, Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and the Mentalist VERY quickly.

Your ideal cosy night in?

A nice film or boxset, Maltesers and Counters, mint choc chip ice cream, crisps, a blanket, pillows and dog cuddles please.

Favourite genre to read
?

Mysteries!

Who are your top 5 singers?

George Ezra and Into the Ark are my joint absolute favourites then Tom Odell, Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes and Coldplay.

Who are your top 3 favourite Grey’s Anatomy characters?

Meredith, Christina and Alex.

What underrated book do you wish everyone would read?

Boy in the Tower by Polly Ho-Yen, or the 39 Clues series.

What classics do you plan to read in 2018?

I have a few I want to read, but I’d especially love to get to Anne of Green Gables, A Little Princess and the Wolves of Willoughby Chase.  I’d also like to give some Jane Austen a go!

What is your daemon?

Ive never read Northern Lights, so I’m not really sure. According to the quiz I just took, a terrier.

What was the last book you DNF?

I think it was Things a Bright Girl Can Do.

What’s your favourite and least favourite genre?

MG- Mystery and fantasy, YA- contemporary for favourites. Not big on horror or dystopia at all, and I’m not that into sci-fi.

If you were a book character, what type of book would you be most likely to end up in? (Mystery, adventure, etc)?

I’d like to feature in a mystery, seeing they’re my favourites. Realistically it’d probably be very dull! My life would not make a good book.

Which characteristics in a protagonist really make you connect with them?

I love really brave characters that have to work hard to be so, e.g. Hazel from Murder Most Unladylike or Ade from Boy in the Tower. And those who love animals are always lovely too!
Which fictional character would you most like to marry?

In what may come as no shock whatsoever at this stage, Nick from Geek Girl. Or maybe Airen from Pony Club Secrets. Outwith books, it’s even harder. Patrick Jane from the Mentalist, Harvey Spectre from Suits and Caleb Rivers from Pretty Little Liars (and also Jackson or Derek or Mark from Grey’s Anatomy). And film wise, Duckie from my all time favourite Pretty in Pink or Andrew from the Proposal, a new fave from this year.Thank you so much for reading! Do we share any answers? The Grey’s Anatomy Tag

Hello everybody!

Today, I’m doing the Grey’s Anatomy Tag, which I was tagged for by it’s lovely creator Han. Onto the post!

*CONTAINS MANY SPOILERS*

How did you discover Grey’s Anatomy?
I recieved it as a Christmas present when I was either 13 or 14, and finished the first season in 5 days. I ordered the next 2 seasons straight away, and carried on in that pattern till I’d watched the lot.

Who is your twisted sister/person?

Don’t really have anyone as close as that.

Favourites

Series
– I won’t lie, I’m actually pretty fuzzy on the events of some seasons. From memory/rewatch so far, I have a particular fondness for seasons 2 and 9.

Character
– My favourite of all time is probably Meredith herself. I LOVE Ellen Pompeo, and how much Mer has developed over the series but still retained what makes her ‘her’

Episode– I love most episodes, but the Christmas episode ofseason 2 has a very special place inmy heart. There’s also season 7, episode 14, which in my opinion has one of the best Christina moments EVER.

Guest Star
– I think Kate Burton was phenomenal as Ellis Grey, and I liked the Chief’s wife Adele. Patient wise, I thought the train crash victims on the pole in season 2’s premiere were incredible; their scenes are heartbreaking.

Death
– I remember finding George’s emotional, but Mark and Lexie are the ones I was most devestated by. (Mark especially)

Wedding
– The post-it note, easily. It’s the best ❤

Series Finale
– Season 2 (it makes me laugh hysterically during the LVAD scenes, which is potentially slightly worrying)  and Season 6, which is so tense and dramatic it’s difficult to watch. I thought 13’s was phenomenal as well.

Storyline
– I found Mer’s relationship with her mum/dealing with her Alzheimer’s interesting to watch, and watching Arizona come to terms with the loss of her leg.

Mer Love Interest
– Derek. I’m sorry, I know it’s the boring answer, but I love them.

Couple
– As I used my beloved MerDer for the question above, I’ll say Burke and Christina for this one. Their relationship had problems, but when they were good, I loved them.

Your own crush
– Alex, and recently I’ve also enjoyed Jackson (who I used to quite dislike!)

Actor bow out
– I thought Chyler Leigh and Eric Dane handled their departures well.

Meredtith danger-
the bomb episodes in season 2. Talk about shivers down my spine. I don’t think I’ll ever not love those episodes.

Surgery
– I don’t pay much attention to the surgeries, if I’m 100% honest.

Worst

Series
– I’m not keen on seasons 4 and 10. 4 I just thought was quite boring with haywire storylines, but season 10 is awful in my opinion. The Meredith/Christina fight bugged me an AWFUL lot, and I hated some of the interns introduced.

Character
– I’m not keen on Izzie (though, oddly, she’s growing on me this rewatch), April, Owen and Amelia. They’re all a bit whiny for my taste, and they’re very smug.

Episode
– I can’t think of any specific episode, but I turned a good few of season 10 off in rage.

Guest Star-
I loathed several. Melissa George as Sadie, for one, and Rebecca/Ava or whatever you want to call her. Olivia the nurse irritated me as well.

Death
– I can’t think of any deaths that particularly annoyed me.

Wedding
– Aside from Meredith’s FABULOUS speech, I found Owen and Ameelia’s wedding episode really annoying.

Series Finale
– I can’t even remember what happened in season 4’s, so probably that. I think the last few seasons’ (e.g 10 and 11 and 12) have been quite poor.

Storyline
– the Christina/Meredith fight in season 10.

Couple
– I think Alex deserves a lot better than Jo (I like the actress, but NOT the character).

Actor bow out
– I was very disappointed in the events surrounding Patrick Dempsey’s departure.

Meredith danger– the drowning one in either season 3 or 4.

Surgery
– same as the other surgery question.

Top 5 Quotes (I can’t think of 5. Here is my favourite of all time)

“Pick me, choose me, love me” – Meredith, to Derek.
