Hello everybody! Today, I’m back with my first film-themed post in ages, where I’ll be chatting about what I’ve been watching recently. As ever, I’m not including rewatches I’ve talked about previously, and every single one of these is a romcom and I’m not sorry. Onto the post!
I Want You Back– I wanted to watch this because Mandy Moore did a song for the soundtrack and I love her, and now I’m on a one woman mission to make everyone watch it. BECAUSE WHY ARE YOU ALL SLEEPING ON IT?!? It’s about two people who get dumped and then team up to try and help the other get their ex back, with hilarious and romantic consequences. It has one of the most perfect grand gestures I’ve ever seen at the end, because it isn’t huge or extraordinary to most people, but to our heroine, we know it means everything. Writing this has made me want to see it again!
10 Things I Hate About You– this is a classic, and I had somehow never seen it, so when I discovered it was on Disney+ I just had to. It’s a hugely fun retelling of the taming of the shrew (which I’ve actually read, I hate it immeasurably). But this takes away all the misogyny and has joyful fake dating vibes, and SUCH a brilliant lead actress in Julia Stiles, with great chemistry with the male lead as well. And as a pal put it “Heath Ledger is GODLY in it”. I hadn’t really known he was before this, so falling in love with him over the course of a movie knowing he wasn’t alive anymore was a really strange experience, ngl I def want to watch more with him now!
Alex Strangelove– okay, so I liked this, but I did also have some problems with it. It’s about a boy starting a relationship with his best friend Clare, then realising that he may actually be gay. Clare was a really sweet character and it was impossible not to feel for her, and I also liked Alex himself for his quirky humour and relatable awkwardness, and the lovely male love interest. But Alex’s friends annoyed me SO MUCH. So scenes with them were hard, but the rest is great and will be enjoyed by my fellow people who love Love, Simon. Also there’s a bit at the end that made me SOB!
Runaway Bride– who doesn’t love Julia Roberts/Richard Gere in Pretty Woman? I can’t think of anyone! It’s about a woman who has run away from three weddings to date, and a journalist who writes a defamatory article about her, after which he is fired and travels to her small town to meet her and she if she runs away from her upcoming 4th wedding. I’ve been meaning to watch this for years, but haven’t, I think partially because I was worried it wouldn’t be as good. But this is so brilliant, and funny, and clever. The chemistry between the leads is undeniable, and I laughed and swooned so much, which is exactly what you want from this kind of movie! I cannot WAIT to go see Ticket to Paradise even more now, eek!!
The Wedding Date- this was recommended to me by a pal (I went crowdsourcing for new things to add to my list of things to watch, and social media DELIVERED, I now have tons more on the cards!). It’s about a woman who hires a male escort to pretend to be her date at her sister’s wedding. I have to admit some of her family got on my nerves, but there are some gorgeous moments in this and I really love Debra Messing; she’s just fantastic in everything I’ve seen her in. Does anyone have any verdict for me on whether I should watch Will and Grace…?
Thank you so much for reading! What movies have you been watching lately? Do you like the sound of anything I’ve talked about? I’d love to have a chat in the comments!

Sounds like great and interesting choices, two for me at least are classics and well worth anyones time. Look forwards to seeing more of your film reviews, and thanks for these!
