The Autumn Tag 2020

Hello everybody! Today, I’m going to be doing my 2020 version of Jenn’s autumn tag. Onto the post!

1. Hot Chocolate – what is your comfort book?

The answer to this never really changes, it’s always Geek Girl! One I found very comforting this year was the 2nd Starfell book, which I was reading the day it was announced the UK was going into lockdown and everything felt so surreal and dystopian and strange.

2. Pumpkin Carving – what is your favourite creative outlet?

Still blogging by default! My favourite kind of post is definitely author interviews though, I find them so fun to do and really interesting to read as well when I get them back from the author.

3. Falling Leaves – changes that appear bad but you secretly love?

I quite like it getting dark early at nights now! I feel like it’s sort of cosier? I also don’t mind the rain that much, especially when I don’t have to go out and I can just get cosy inside and listen to it.

4. Pumpkin Spiced Latte – something you love that others tend to judge

I have a few answers to this, I’m tempted to pick something non bookish for a change! I really like watching The Only Way is Essex when it’s on (which it is just now, and I’m loving it being twice weekly this year!) and a lot of people are quite judgy about that, as if I’m wasting my time or stupid for enjoying it. Book wise, I think the romance genre gets a lot of unnecessary hate, it really winds me up. If you don’t want to read something then fair enough but there’s no need to have a go

5. Bonfire Night – what makes you explode with joy?

My answers to this haven’t really changed from last year, although one I didn’t mention then was dresses! They’re my favourite thing to wear and I’ve been loving wearing my more autumnal ones since the weather got colder (in like August because I’m Scottish and it’s never not freezing!)

6. Fright Night – favourite scary book or film

When I’m writing this I have just finished the Ghost of Gosswater and there are some REALLY creepy bits in that. I don’t really read horror or anything, so a gothic MG is about as scary as I go!

7. Halloween candy – favourite thing to eat

Recently my snack of choice has been Maltesers mint buttons! They’re so nice, plus mint helps with my nausea so they’re great for days when I’m really not feeling like eating.

8. Scarves – your autumn ‘must have’ accessory

Reading back my answer from last year, I forgot something SO painfully obvious. Absolutely fluffy socks!! I’m always freezing and my feet are always particularly bad so I wear them pretty much year round to be honest. I’ve got a massive collection, I even bought some koala ones the other day.

9. Fire – a book or film that burns your soul

Last year I think said the Murder Most Unladylike books, which is definitely still true, but I have both a book and a film to mention this year! So book wise, I, Cosmo could literally have been written for me. It feels like a mix of Charlotte’s Web and the One Hundred and One Dalmatians, which are my favourite classics, and it’s about a golden retriever, which I loved because I have two goldens and I adore them beyond words. It was easily my favourite book of last year.

The film I want to talk about is Pretty in Pink, because as you may be able to guess from my Twitter bio it’s my absolute favourite film! I think John Hughes was an amazing director and this one doesn’t really get as much love as Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles which is a real shame.

10. Toffee apples – a book or film that seems one thing but really has a different inside

I remember finding this really hard last year and I’m struggling with it again this time! The best thing I can come up with is that the Unicorn Quest series look like they’ll be quite sugary and fluffy based on the covers, but they’re actually pretty action packed and full of twists and the world building’s AMAZING. I’ve had a lot of people say they won’t read them when I’ve recommended them and it really is a shame because I think they deserve a lot more readers than they have.

Thank you so much for reading! What do you love about autumn? Do you have any thoughts on the things I’ve mentioned? I’d love to hear in the comments!

      1. Not sure Ghost’s going to make it. I have just heard that I have the same crazily long list of books to read as I did this time last year for work do everything has gone out the window!
